Give any two of distance, time and pace — this works out the third, plus speed and splits.

About this calculator
Distance, time and pace are locked together by one relationship: time = distance × pace. Give any two and the third follows, which is why this calculator lets you pick which one to solve for rather than fixing the inputs.
Pace is time per unit of distance — minutes and seconds per kilometre or per mile — while speed is the inverse, distance covered per hour. Runners generally think in pace and cyclists in speed, so both are shown. Converting between them uses 1 mile = 1.609344 km exactly.
The preset buttons use official race distances: 5K is 5 km, 10K is 10 km, a half marathon is 21.0975 km and a marathon is 42.195 km. Those last two are the exact metric definitions, which is why they are not round numbers in miles.
Splits are calculated at an even pace for the whole distance, showing the elapsed time you would pass each kilometre or mile marker. Real races are rarely run at perfectly even pace — hills, wind and fading all shift things — so treat them as a target rather than a prediction.
Frequently asked questions
What pace do I need for a sub-4-hour marathon?
About 5:41 per kilometre, or 9:09 per mile. Set the solver to Pace, pick the Marathon preset and enter 3 hours 59 minutes to see the exact figure — and aim slightly quicker to leave yourself a margin.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
They are inverses of each other. Pace is how long it takes to cover a set distance (minutes per km), while speed is how far you travel in a set time (km per hour). A faster run means a lower pace number but a higher speed number.
Why is a half marathon 21.0975 km rather than 21?
Because it is defined as exactly half the marathon distance of 42.195 km, which itself comes from the 26 miles 385 yards used at the 1908 London Olympics. Converted to metric it simply does not land on a round number.
