About this calculator

A single discount reduces the price by Price × (Discount % ÷ 100).

Stacked discounts are applied sequentially to whatever the price has become after the previous discount, not all at once on the original price — so two 10% discounts save 19%, not 20%, because the second 10% is taken off an already-reduced price.

Frequently asked questions

Do two 10% discounts add up to 20% off?

No — they come to 19%. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so stacked discounts always save slightly less than adding the percentages together.

How do I work out the original price from a sale price?

Divide the sale price by 1 minus the discount as a decimal. An item reduced 25% to 60 was originally 60 divided by 0.75, which is 80.
