About this calculator

Month-on-month (MoM) growth compares each figure to the one immediately before it: (This Month − Last Month) ÷ Last Month × 100.

Year-on-year (YoY) growth instead compares a figure to the same point 12 entries earlier, which removes seasonal effects that a MoM comparison can't. Cumulative growth shows the total percentage change from your first entry to your last.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between MoM and YoY growth?

Month-on-month compares each figure to the previous month, so it reacts quickly but is noisy. Year-on-year compares it to the same month a year earlier, which strips out seasonal patterns and shows the underlying trend.

Why can month-on-month growth look terrible when the business is fine?

Seasonality. A quiet January after a busy December shows a steep monthly fall even in a growing business, which is exactly why the year-on-year comparison matters.
